US-Nepal International Moot Court Competition (March 15-19, 2018)

Fulbright Alumni Association of Nepal (FAAN) proudly organized the first-ever US-Nepal International Moot Court Competition (March 15-19, 2018) in association with the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy.  The program aimed to foster student-to-student interaction between Nepal and the US on emerging trends in international law.

A moot court competition is a mock court at which law students argue in hypothetical cases in front of the judges in court-like environment. Participants take part in simulated court proceedings, which includes drafting memorials or memoranda and participating in oral argument in the moot court.

The program was inaugurated by U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B. Teplitz and Supreme Court Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla amidst a function organized at Nepal Police Academy on March 15, 2018.

Students of five Kathmandu-based law schools (Nepal Law Campus, National Law College, Kathmandu School of Law, Kathmandu University School of Law, and Chakrabarti Habi Education Academy College of Law) and students of Howard University School of Law, USA participated in the competition. Each team consisted of four students and a coach.

Nepal Law Campus won the best team award with Howard University School of Law becoming the second-best team.

Ms. Jony Mainaly, Executive Member of FAAN, served as the Project Director for the organization of the event on behalf of FAAN.
